creativeTHINK brainchild (and owner) of 'Diva Dash': The idea - support a healthy community and make it fun.
On Saturday, December 3, 2005, divas from aged two to 82 filled Seward Park to don tiaras and celebrate girl power in a new way--running or walking to the finish line of the Diva Dash.
Local running group The Endurance Divas put on the dash in order to celebrate diva style and spirit and to raise money for local nonproft, Girls on the Run. The after-school program uses running and life-skills lessons to prepare pre-teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
And raise money they did--- the dash doubled the divas' goal and raised over $25,000.
"Putting on this race was one of the best things that anyone has done for Girls on the Run," said Executive Director Jeanne Higgins. "The money will provide program scholarships to low-income girls and help us to grow and develop as an organization," she said. "It was also the perfect fun, positive and noncompetitive atmosphere for our girls' graduation 5K."
And as their race bibs showed, every Diva Dasher was number "1."
